GENERAL: I am teaching recess games to elementary students in Utah. I have been trying to stick with games that are simple and require little or no equipment. The idea is for the students to be able to play these games and teach them to other students when I am no longer at their school. I need some ideas for games that can be played in the winter. Games that take into consideration slippery ice and/or wet slush. I don't want the kids to get hurt or soaking wet. Any ideas? Please share in the forum. |
GENERAL: I am a first year teacher in a Catholic school. I am the one and only PE teacher for grades K-8. The 7th and 8th grade classes are split by gender. I feel that things are going well in most of my classes except for my 8th grade boys. It is a large class of 26 boys. I struggle with many misbehavior issues (not just one but more like twenty). Our gym is the size of one basketball court so there is an issue of space restriction as well. I know that a lot of my struggle is because of my lack of experience and lack of proper classroom management.
Does anyone have any good tips for classroom management/procedures that would decrease the ocurrence of misbehavior and increase flow/productivity? Thank you so much for ANY advice that you can give me. Please share in the forum. Also posted under Junio/Middle School Physical Education. |
TECHNOLOGY: In school the children are not allowed to use their ipods and mp3 players during study halls. Recently, they students have started to ask if they can use their ipods during p.e. class, when they are performing fitness activities. The high school p.e. teacher told them that they could, if they do not like the music that she is playing. Does anyone think that this is sending mixed signals to the children, and what are your thoughts on whether or not the children should be allowed to have these in school? Please share in the forum. |
HEALTH, FITNESS, NUTRITION I enjoy playing review games with my students prior to a test. I believe that this helps them prepare for and exam. I switch the games up between jeopardy and wheel of fortune. I have collegues that do not think that playing reveiw games is beneficial to the students. What do you think? If you do play review games, what types of games do you play? Please share in the forum. |
HEALTH, FITNESS, NUTRITION: My school district has a big problem with teen pregnancy. Each year there are between 5-10 girls who get pregnant. Some keep the babies, and some get abortions. We have had students that have already had 3-4 abortions. We go over sexual education, and in great detail. However the trend continues. What ideas do you have that we may be able to implement to our students to stop the cycle? Please share in the forum. |
GRANTS: I am currently a graduate student and one of my classes is a grant writing class. I am learning a lot about how much money there is out there that foundation, organizations, and people are giving out but I have had difficulty finding a foundation that is truly compatible with my grant. What are the best ways about finding the right organization to fund a grant proposal? Do I need to stick with staying locally and finding a foundation around my area or are there foundations that fund nationally? What are the best sites out there to find funding?
