I am going to be teaching a lesson on setting a volleyball. I was wondering if anybody knows any drills and game play that I could use, because I know there is not that much you can do with setting a volleyball. THANKS

A fun drill I always enjoyed at practice went like this:

Divide the team into 4 groups per net with equal number of players, groups 1, 2, 3, and 4. Have groups 1 and 2 across from each other on opposite sides of the net and do the same with groups 3 and 4. Both sets of groups can share 1 net. Use 2 balls total, one for groups 1 and 2 and one for groups 3 and 4. Have them set the ball back and forth over the net and after each student sets the ball they run to the back of the line. Depending on how advanced they are or aren't you can chose which line they run to the back of, depending on how much you want them to move. The simplest way would be to stay in their own line.

An exercise that my high school boys' volleyball's setters and myself would do is stand at the free throw line on the basketball court and practice trying to set the volleyball into the hoop so that it to touches nothing but net. To add a little bit more challenge to it, you can have the setters stand anywhere within the three-point line and aim for the same goal. This way they can better judge how much effort to put into the set in order for it to reach its spot.
