What could be the best way or best ice breaker to help students get into a pool when they are afraid or don't feel comfortable swimming in front of a classroom?

A good first step would be to get the students comfortable outside of the pool..so do an icebreaker outside the pool.

Then when they do get into the pool, possibly start with basic water safety skills instead of doing swimming strokes right away. That should help them get used to being in the pool and being in front of eachother all at once.

When I was in my Aquatics class, I learned some ways to get used to the water. I agree with getting the students comfortable outside of the pool first but then when you get in the pool start off with exercises in the shallow end such as, putting their just their face in the water, jumping up and down and going under so they aren't under that long, then go to floating, on their back and stomach. They are kind of fun and goofy activties so, I believe those exercising will help them become more comfortable with themselves and the water!
