Hi I'm a junior and physical education major at Towson Univeristy. I have recently been given the assignment of writing a unit plan on "Self-Defense" for grades 3-5 (I realize this is a forum for MS/HS but I havent found anything for any level). Obviously its my assignment, I should do it myself, but I am right now sitting in my library which includes no books on self defense that can be incorporated into the classroom/gymnasium. Since alot of you are teachers out there I was wondering if you had any expereience teaching it and atleast had some basic concepts to get me started. I have tried to search the internet for things as well and have not found much AT ALL. I've even looked through sites with unit and lesson plans and they seem to have EVERYTHING but self-defense. I'm running out of options and didn't know what else to do. Any kind of feedback from anyone at all would be extremely helpful, thanks.

I'm a student at Slippery Rock University. Try looking for a book on the basics of wrestling. Wrestling is a good self defense and that what many people don't realize about this sport. I have wrestled for twelve years and I know that it is very good for self defense because it has helped me as I was growing up from getting picked on due to my size. I now help coach wrestling to elementary and middle school students. It is very difficult for students to pick up wrestling right away, but they can always learn the basics.
