Dear Colleagues,
Starting this next school year I will be working with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students for the first time in several years. A respected colleague of mine recommended I learn about and possibly use the SPARK curriculum for middle school age children. Has anyone working with middle school students used this curriculum? If so, could you elaborate on your thoughts and experiences with this teaching tool. Thanks for your input.

Just to follow up on Phil's comment, SPARK is a most effective program. As part of our 2003 PEP grant we inserviced more than a hundred elementary PE teachers in SPARK, and they loved the program. I did a "intermission/break" 15 min. brain based learning presentation showing how the SPARK activites benefitted cognition. Every comment was positive. We have written a PEP grant for 2006 and once again SPARK is a part. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

I have looked over the SPARK program and found that it is already very similar to my philosophy of teaching and implementation of my lesson plans. I will use it as an added resource and something to get ideas from but I can't say it was revolutionary in any way.
