Why do you think that Womens Sports do not get the same amount of coverage as men sports? Is this something that can fixed? Are there any womens sports that you think are more exciting than the mens game? |

Being a woman I agree that coverage is scarce. But I don't find any women’s sports more exciting than men's. I myself love football, hockey, MMA, and boxing. The speed of the games is so much faster and I think that is why many people chose to watch men rather than women. Basketball is fun to watch when men play because the guys get down the court...girls basketball is so boring when you compare. I think the only way it will get better is if more leagues are created professionally, and more teams are added in the WBA.

As a coach of high school girls sports, both soccer and basketball in a small community, the support for male athletics far succeeds that of the females. I agree with Heather, the speed of athletic events from the males is so much better. A lot of this has to do with their obvious difference in strength compared to females, allowing them to be much quicker and much more physical. Males seem to have a much more competitive edge compared to females today. When I was in high school playing basketball about 14 years ago we had a very strong physical basketball team for females and we had just as many fans as the boys, but that just doesn't happen today. The intensity, aggressiveness and competitive drive from the males is really what people like to watch. Can this be fixed? I think this is a very challenging question because it will really have to start 1 team at a time....1 sport at a time, which will take a great deal of time. It's sad to think this happens, but it does. I can't say there really are any sports more exciting to watch of females than males because usually anything females can do, the males can do better. |

I agree with Heather as far as the speed of the game. I find myself switching channels quicker when it's women playing. I also feel advertisement has more males that represent their product than women. That can also have an effect on the overall coverage or interest in genders. |

I would have to agree with what Rachel said about the aggressiveness of men's sports and also about how this can be fixed. Women's sports do not get the same attention because men's sports are so much more fast-paced and entertaining to watch. This would be difficult to fix because it is a natural thing, for men to be quicker and more intense than women. Volleyball is mainly a women's sport and I think it is one that gets a good amount of coverage because it is exciting and entertaining to watch. I think that volleyball gets coverage because it is intense and involves a lot of quick movement, but I can't say that there are really any women's sports that are more exciting than watching men play due to the fact that it is a whole different level when men play. |
