I currently teach at the high school level and use polar heart rate monitors for my physical education classes. When using the elastic straps I am constantly taking them home to wash to eliminate some risk of germs being spread. I am thinking about charging for the straps next year but am concerned the parents will not cooperate. Have you tried charging for straps? If so, has the outcome been positive or negative?

I used Polar HRM in an elementary school. I sent home an explanation of how they would be used and allowed them to purchase their own strap to be used. They were labeled and left at school in their portfolio. I also had extra straps for use by those who didn't purchase. I believe we got bonus straps for a certain number purchased. I put the used straps in a laundry bag and threw them in the washing machine. I used another colored bag for clean ones.

Thank you for your response. I am looking for the best way to handle the situation. I think by giving the option to purchase rather than making it mandatory would solve my issue.
