Hello,

My department is in the middle of writing a grant mostly for heart rate monitors. We have to give prices and quantity. We are trying to figure out if we should try to get the downloadable hr monitors or the next best. There is a significant price difference. What we really want to know is how others use their hr monitors in class if they do not have the ones that download. How do you assess, record, how much time does it take, etc. Any and all help would be great.

Thank you,
Chris Moore

I would go with the downloadable HRM simply because of the data collection problem. With the HRM that does not download, you are still recording information in a 20th century manner when it is 6 years into the 21st century. Plus if you get the HRM that download, you can assess participation/effort by how many minutes you are in the target heart rate zone. If you get PE manager with the palm PC, you can do all of your assessments and rubrics right in class. It is time that PE upgrades to the future and HRM with downloadable technology is a great way to do it.

George
