I am a Physical Education major wishing to teach and coach at the secondary level. A problem that I have noticed in other school systems is that some schools offer a Weight Training class in place of their Physical Education class. I am in support of teaching weight training into the Physical Education curriculum, but am unsure about the idea of giving the choice to students about replacing Physical Education with strictly weight training. I was wondering what are some other thoughts on this topc.

Eric, Weight Training is seen as a form of Physical Education in many schools. I have seen schools that only offer this type of class to upperclassman who yet have to complete their Physical Education requirements. I would agree with you that Weight Training isn't suitable form of Phys Ed, but can be seen as physical activity. I hope that helps

I am recently observed a Yoga class for female students in a 7th and 9th grade school. Is this an appropriate lesson for this age group of students?

Please Comment.

Physical Education should always come first. There is big discrepancy between Weight Training and Physical Education. Physical Education should be utilized to its fullest potential and give students a broad number of activities. I think that Weight Training is awesome, I am a bodybuilder myself. But if students want to weight train they can do it after school on their own time.
