What would be the best way to go about incorporating a weightlifting program into High School PE classes? Where to start? How to be prepared?

I don't know if you're still looking for replies to this thread, but safety would be the first thing to cover with technique coming right with it. I would start from a functional anatomy point of view-pushing, pulling, etc.

A lot also depends on what equipment and how much time you were going to spend with it.

Safety is always a primary concern. A few classes should be spent in the gym with the students simply listening to their instructor talk about and demonstrating proper spotting technique as well as proper lifting technique.

You should also cover certain lifts that you will use and others that you will avoid. You will avoid certain lifts due to risk of injury and impracticality (due to too much wasted time changing and removing weights or using only one side at a time). Gettin the most out of your gym time should be a primary concern.

I think that safety is the first thing you should focus on such as spotting but give student a chance to pick if they would like a weight training program so the students that know how to lift can improve their ability and skills and have fun when doing it. Thank you for your post.

What is the best way to incorporate a weight circuit and cardio lesson into a physical education class? Most high schools have weight rooms that are used by their sports teams. To get the most use of these machines a weight circuit and cardio vascular lesson can benefit all students. The teacher can introduce proper use of the machines and the muscle group it strengthens. The cardio vascular machines can also be incorperated into the lesson to build stamina and endurance.

Safety is a must for a starting point and then the teacher should move to technique. If students do not know the proper way to do a lift they can gain no benefit from the lift or worse be injured. After safety and technique are demonstrated the teacher should create a program that all students can do no matter the stregth of the student. The teacher can explain the benefit of each lift so the students do not feel anything is pointless. If a student understands why it is helping them they are more willing to do it.
