What is sportsmanship to you? Do you actively teach sportsmanship to your students? How? Is it part of the grade? Please share on this topic.

Sportsmanship to me is a player being able to maintain their focus the whole game. Helping a person when the fall down. Telling them nice shot or good move when they make one. It is keeping your mouth shut when another player talks trash and being a role modal for young players. I would not recommend teaching sportsmanship but I would recommend going over good sportsmanship to your students or players and punishing them if they do not obtain good sportsmanship.

I feel that sportsmanship is being a team player, encouraging others, taking an active role with leaderships positions, and never putting other participants down. Although it is good to have sportsmanship skills, I don't think it can be taught very easily. Mabey you could go over it with the students or players and most definatly encourage it at all times.

As long as you teach children about the importance of respect and courtesy they should show to others, they will have great sportsmanship. There will always be a few that will not get the pioint of sportsmanship but thats only because they havent matured yet. Though you can still implant the correct behavior in their brains.
