Apart from the traditional sports of basketball, volleyball, swimming what new games could be introduced into the Physical Education setting? (Especially for older students 14+) Being Irish I wonder would games like gaelic football, soccer and rugby work well in the gym? Has anybody tried introducing a game or sport that goes against the normal curve? Do the students enjoy it or dismiss the games as being silly?

I have introduced sports that are against the grain to students while I have been student teaching and to be honest they have received mixed reactions from my students. When I thought cricket to my class it received a lot of skepticism at the start, but as the students learnt the rules and got better at it they started to enjoy the sport. I think if you are going to teach one of these sports in class you need to know the rules well and know how to teach it.
