I remember throughout high school there would always be a group of girls and boys that just didn't participate particularly noticable during game play. They wouldn't participate for example because they didn't want to get their clothes sweaty, or the girls didn't want to mess their hair up, or for whatever other reason they had there always seemed to be a group of people who didn't participate during game play. What methods should be taken to get everyone involved in game play?

This has got to be the hardest part of teaching high school PE. I give students a 0 for sitting out no matter what but sometimes the students who play just to get a grade end up just standing there in the way.

This is a huge problem in PE classes, I think it depends on the types of activities that you are doing. Also, telling your students from the beginning that a lot is expected from them, and this class is not going to be just a chance to stand around and socialize. If you start your class off with this attitude they will hopefully feed off of you. While I know this is easier said then done, to reach out to the students who are not involved and see what is needed in order to get them active.
