Suggestions please! In a few weeks we will be having a four week unit with one group in the gym and one group in the weight room. Due to changes in the staff's schedules there are a number of sections that have 3 teachers on and the numbers are close to 90. The gym is a regular size gym - just slightly larger than a full size basketball court, the weight room is mid-size, but, it has an adjoining "wrestling room" - connected by a garage door. The units will be badminton in the gym and weight training in the other room. The curriculum was originally designed for two 4 wk units where the groups would switch activities. The problem is with the badminton unit- there is only room for 6 courts in the gym. If doubles are eventually played with scorekeepers and one official per court, with a reduced score and a rotation involving the partners - this accounts for up to 36 people being actively involved. Does anyone have suggestions for what can be done with the other approx. 8 students that can keep them safely & actively involved? Right now it is set up to have the girls do badminton for 4 wks while the boys did the weight room, then switch. Another problem is that the number of girls ranges between the high 30's to low 40's and the two groups of boys would be about 20-25 each (about 45-50 total combined). Any ideas on how this could all work? My collegues are at a loss for ideas- their concern is safety and they don't believe it can be done safely. I thought that at least to solve the space concerns in the weight room - create another teaching station in the wrestling room, staying on curriculum making it a free weights, stability ball, medicine ball, ladders section. A good portion of our curriculum is co-ed choice. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
