I am a senior PE student who is team teaching a fifth grade class basketball. Its a huge class and just wondering if anyone has some really easy ideas for basketball drills for a large amount of students. I never played bball, I watch it, and I get it, but its still somewhat intimidating. let me know if you can help

You can involve a lot of students with a basketball biathlon - assuming you have a number of baskets in your gym. Be sure your students know they don't have to line up to shoot. They can fire away at will...and if they hit someone else's shot, so be it! Here's an article explaining the game:

I have the same issues with high numbers and trying to do drills usually causes a lot of standing around which creates bordom and behavioral problems. Love the basketball biathlon idea and will definitely try it out!

You can also help with people standing around by setting up a fitness station. Divide your class into smaller groups. One group can work on basketball skill #1, second group can work on basketball skill #2, third group can work on fitness skill #1, fourth group can work on fitness skill #2, etc. I usually bring out medicine balls, exercise bands, jump ropes to use for specific stations while I work with my class on the skill station. It takes some work but the kids get better at the station rotation after a few classes. The key is to make sure to monitor the students in the other groups that you are not working on. I have had issues with students not following safety rules because they think I'm not paying attention/I cannot see them.
