I am a 5 foot, 19 year old sophomore girl in college and I am going to be substituting in a month at my high school and middle school. I am afraid that I am not going to be able to control my class and the students are going to walk all over me because I am a substitute, and I am young. Is there any advice you could give me to help me make the right choices, gain respect, and make it through the first day of substituting!?

I'm worried that I am going to have the same problem when I start subbing/teaching right out of college. I'm 20 and people tell me I look like I'm 16! Some of the students will be a lot bigger than me and I worry they'll try to walk all over me. If anyone has experienced this or has any tips it would be really helpful!

I wouldn't worry too much. I subbed right out of college and only had a few students "test the waters". I suggest setting expectations that are both fair and appropriate and providing clear and defined consequenes for students that choose to not meet those expectations. Students respect teachers who are fair, honest, and kind. remember that even teachers who know the kids might have to resort to external help from another teacher or administrator. But this never happened to me. Relax and be confident, enjoy it...it is what you want to do and you are most likely good at what you are doing if you made it this far.
