Hello, I am a junior in college and enjoy fitness and being active, especially lifting. As a future Health and PE teacher I was wondering if as a teacher you can be fully engaged with your students? What I mean by this is can you run or workout beside them or would this remove you from your role as facilitator? Has anyone had success with this or any advice for me? |

When I was younger I ran with them and played in the games when a player was needed. I still play some of the time. I did run with my running club after school years ago. |

Of course, you are a role model and are responsible for leadership skills. There is a limit, and you will have to know when to back off. With the younger students, it is necesary to get "down" to their level. In most cases, they will look at you as being caring and interested that you have knowledge of the skills and how to help them. It is important to know that it's about them , not you. |

I am a senior in university and from what I remember the only teachers that participated with the class were in high school. I dont know if that was to make the class even or if they just enjoyed the activities they were teaching to join. I know that when I teach I plan on joining a few of the classes that I really enjoy to help show what level I want the class to be at or to help pick up the intensity. I think it helps show the students you are not just there to grade. |
