Below are major highlights from this week’s press briefing at which NASPE announced its support of First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move Campaign to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation, and in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Adolescent and School Health, presented the findings of a new comprehensive CDC report on physical activity, physical education and academic performance.

Thanks so much for helping NASPE to promote these important CDC research findings about physical activity, physical education and academic achievement. A great new advocacy tool, we hope you will want to give out the academic brochure (see below). For AAHPERD members the price is only $10 for 100 copies. You can call 800-321-0789 or order it online at the AAHPERD bookstore.

Here is the story link to USA Today as well as the link to the new Let’s Move In School website and a copy of the press release. Please share with your colleagues and tell us how you would like to join NASPE and Cartoon Network in this new initiative. We welcome your involvement.

The Let’s Move In School site is up and running and can be reached directly at www.letsmoveinschool.org

NASPE’s Let's Move In School aims to educate our youth about the benefits of a physically active lifestyle and improve the quality and quantity of physical education and physical activity programs in our nation’s schools through comprehensive school physical activity programs.

The site is geared toward Parents, school administrators and policymakers and asks them to take 3 action steps at www.letsmoveinschool.org

1. Get the Facts – Links to Information that can help support the need for comprehensive school physical activity programs

2. Get the Resources – Tools to help you implement your program

3. Get Involved – Ideas your school can use today
We also have a link to a pdf of our new academic brochure that outlines the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Review of Research Findings about the Positive Impact of School-Based Physical Education and Physical Activity on Academic Achievement.
