Beat the Heat
July's free download provides action steps for preventing and treating heat-related illnesses.

As we head toward the dog days of summer and the commencement of two-a-day football practices, we'd like to draw coaches' attention to the risk of heat-related illnesses. Knowing how to prevent, recognize, and treat athletes suffering from dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are absolute essentials for coaches of all sports. Each year we see cases of heat-related deaths, virtually 100 percent of which are preventable with proper planning and treatment.

This month's free download "Prevent Heat Illness This Season" provides coaches with the information they need on this potentially life-saving topic. It's taken from ASEP's Sport First Aid book, written by Melinda Flegel and upon which ASEP's Sport First Aid course is based. To access the download, just complete this short form: http://www.asep.com/Administrators/samples.cfm?associate=2226. You'll find the download listed in both the Coaches and Sport Administrators sections of the download area. If you're a sport administrator, we encourage you to distribute the document to coaches in your sport programs. While you're there, feel free to peruse, download, print, and share the dozens of other resources that are available to you free of charge.
