POSTITION DESCRIPTION

Tenure-Track Position:
Preparation of Teachers of Physical Education, K-12
Department of Kinesiology
San Francisco State University

Position Available:
The Kinesiology Department at San Francisco State University is now accepting applications for a tenure-track position in teacher preparation in Physical Education, with training across the K-12 levels.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completed Doctorate at time of appointment in teacher preparation, emphasis at elementary and/or secondary school level; experience in K-12 and college teaching and developing collaborative programs is desirable. The successful applicant will have the ability to work within a multidisciplinary Department as a member of a team and within a multicultural, diverse University setting. The successful applicant should have demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher as well as demonstrated ability to gain external funding and to establish and pursue a research/scholarly agenda. Interest and ability to extend expertise into the community is expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in elementary and/or secondary school physical education to majors and to non-majors who plan to become elementary and/or secondary school classroom teachers; teach a variety of instructional analysis courses; supervise field experiences; and advise Liberal Studies students, physical education teaching majors, and credential students. The applicant will work towards developing a collaborative partnership for an integrated teacher preparation program with the local public schools, the Department, and the College of Education; establish field-based site(s) and opportunities for the training of physical education teachers; assist in the implementation of an outcome-based physical education teacher preparation program; and assess program goals and student achievement.

The applicant will also work with faculty from other CSU campuses on delineating common exit standards for elementary and/or secondary school teachers of physical education; explore the potential for common curricular components; help classroom teachers develop movement-related teaching goals and skills; and work with the local community colleges and high schools to recruit K-12 teachers. Finally, the applicant will engage students in scholarly projects that emphasize assessment in K-12, develop a research plan in a secondary interest area of their choosing, and disseminate scholarship through publications and presentations. The successful applicant will be a member of both the graduate and undergraduate faculties within the Department.

Rank and Salary:
Assistant Professor. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
