How can an aquatics class be adapted for students with visual impairments?

I am a student at Slippery Rock University and I have taken the Adapted Aquactics class here. A few things we discussed in this class for students with visual impairments would be to make sure if they are swimming laps, put visually impaired students next to the wall so they can feel the edge and stay swimming strait. Another thing would be to get permission to touch the student before the unit and have a pole with a tennis ball or another soft ball on the end of it and tap the student on the shoulder when they area stroke or two from the edge so they do not run into the wall. If you are playing a game like water polo, use a ball that has bells in it or something along those lines to insure that the visually impaired student will know where the ball is so they can participate. Ask your student for things that they would like to make them feel more comfortable in the water. Keep the lines of communication open! I hope some of these suggestions help!
