Hello,
I have been teaching for twelve years now. I started out as a special education teacher and am now teaching physical education. I have been asked by our new special education director to locate any information relating to adapted physical education curriculum. Does anyone have any idea where I could find sample curriculums? Thanks for your help.

Yes, here in the Sachem Central School District(New York) we have a well-established Adapted P.E. program with two full-time teachers who travel among our sixteen buildings. They are both excellent physical educators, and probably could assist you quite a bit. Write back if you need me to put you in touch with them. GOOD LUCK!

I have a thought about an Adapted Physical Education curriculum. The district should have a curriculum for physical education. Rather than creating a new curriculum for APE, the regular PE curriculum should be used. What should be developed is how the activities and concepts should be taught to the students with various disabilities.

I have been faced with the issue of including a child who is in a wheel chair and is unable to use his limbs. The unit that is being taught is bad-mitten. how might i include this individual to make him feel like he is part of the class?

I think you should continue to keep your Physical Education class. If you make an Adapted Physical Education class then you are not giving those with intellectual disabilities a chance to be like everyone else. I think you just need to modify your games so that everyone can be involved.

I enjoy the sport of archery and I believe that it is a good lifetime sport. I realize that it requires good vision to be good at it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to incorporate students with visual disabilities into an archery unit for a Physical Education class?

i'm a special educator for children with cerebral palsy n the physically challenged.Special needs children having limitations may it be physical or intellectual, modifications and adaptation are needed and necessary if there is more than one disability in your grp when conducting pe lessons.
