Should NCAA athletes be given a pay stipend? How would you decide how much to give. Should different sports get different amounts because of the time that is involved with the sport?

Well, being an athlete, this idea sounds great to me. However, i feel that NCAA athletes should not be paid. They are in college to receive an education. The term in student/athlete not athlete/student.

Yes the athletes are in college to receive an education. However playing college sports is a full time job. I feel that all athletes should get paid for the time that they put in. The NCAA added another game to the college football schedule so the schools could make more money to run for their programs.

I think NCAA college athletes should get vouchers to complete their education, if they are unable to complete their degree. I cannot believe the amount of time they have to spend for their sport allows them to adeqately complete their class work. They bring their institutions money thru their athletic performance.

I am former NCAA athlete I know how hard it is to work while being involved in a college sport while attending classes. Despite this I don't feel that athletes should be given a stipend, it would be nice, but lets face it there are already budget issues just to keep sports on campus. I feel that receiving scholarship money should be enough.

As a former athlete I believe that the NCAA should pay athletes. Something like $50 a week and only during the season should be fair. It is very hardfor an athleteto be a full time student, full time employee and give full participation in their sport.

I am also a former NCAA athlete and even though as an athlete your time is very limited to find a job and earn extra cash, I don't believe that NCAA athletes should be paid any kind of stipend. Many schools cannot even afford all the sports they have as it is and paying the athletes would just add to that problem. Also I love to hear the big-time NCAA athletes who are on a full-ride argue about not being able to have extra cash. Well they are practically being paid already, since they're whole college education is being paid for through their scholarship.

I think athletes should get something like meal money of 40 - 60 dollars a week and if they choose to save it and use it not on food that is the athletes choice. But when I think of stipend I think of larger checks like in the range of 500 dollars to 2000 dollars which I do not believe athletes should receive.

In regards to the mean question, NCAA atheletes DO in fact get money! All of this money goes to their college education. There is no reason why they should be getting paid or even talks about it. Going to college for free or having a majority of it paid for is fine and it needs to stay that way!
