Any ideas about how to increase a hitters bat speed. I am trying to find new inventive ways to add power to the hitters swing.

I have played baseball for ten years, and i was always trying to increase my bat speed as the pitchers began to throw harder as I got older and the most important thing for a player to do is to first have the foundations of a swing down. After the player has proper technique ie) hip rotation, eye on the ball, follow through etc, then a few days per week, either durring practice or at home, use a longer bat, which will increase the weight of the bat, and will make it easier when the player goes back to his/her normal bat. It is also imperative that the player has solid upper body strength, especially in the arms. Hope this helps.

I am a 12u AAU baseball coach and we do a drill called Quick Bat. All you do is take ten baseballs and have the player stand infront of you. This is almost like soft toss, except for this the player is going to widen their stance to remove the load step. You then begin to toss the baseballs at their hip. The goal is to swing the bat and stop right before the finish and bring the bat back on the same plane it came forward on. they hit the ten baseballs as fast as possible make sure they are pivoting on the back foot each time. This is a great drill for bat speed.
