When is it considered crossing the line between the coach and the parents? When and why does a player become a "Favorite"? I feel that this all can be prevented by never crossing the boundarie between a Parent and a Coach even if they have been lifetime long friends. This is all pure maturity, and makes a better atmosphere for everybody, bottom line.

There is no line. If you're a coach and your kid happens to be on your team, then you're both. Yeah you'll find those that favor their kid but all coaches/parents should know that you need to keep your space from being mostly the parent. A player becomes a coaches favorite by work ethic, skill, and personality.

Even though players happen to come favorites, this should not be an issue. Coaches should always try to look at all of their athletes on the same level playing field. Also, if a coach has a child on the team they should treat them as they would any other player and not make them their favorite, if anything they should be harder on their own child.
