Do you believe that steriods really benefit a baseball player? I have played baseball all my life and think that steroids actually can ruin your game rather than improve it. Batting is all about technique, proper mechanics and great hand-eye coordination. Steroids mean nothing if the athlete cannot make contact with the ball. Actually, if steroids are being used and that person's arms and other muscles grow, it makes swinging a bat more difficult than originally. So how much does steroids really help? That is why when people say that Barry Bonds and Rafeal Palmerio are cheaters and would not be as good if they hadn't taken steroids. (Even though Barry hasn't been found guilty of it yet) How about the fact that these two professionals have the best swings in baseball? Their mechanics and technique are flawless, so could that possibly be the reason they are so good?

I totally agree with you. No matter how strong you are you have to know how to hit a baseball. Whether we all like to admit it or not Barry Bonds is an exceptional baseball player and the issue of him taking steroids(or not) should not prevent him from this glory. He knows how to play the game and this is a perfect example of how steroids really dont matter in baseball. Also very good point with the muscle growth effecting swing.

I agree that it takes excellent hand eye coordination to hit a baseball but i think steroids do help a hitter in baseball. Steroids turn a routine fly ball into a homerun for Barry Bonds. The best example is when he hit a home run and broke his bat at the same time. Also Barry Bonds head size increased a lot from 1991 to 2005.

I think while steroids don't give you the ability to make contact or field a ball they still play a major role in how a baseball player performs so I would say they do greatly help a baseball player who must endure a longer season than any other sport. 162 games with no more than 2 or 3 days off max during a season is not an easy feat. It is hard, grueling, sometimes painful, and requires an insane mental and physical set of abilities to complete. A players body is helped greatly by Steroids in recovery time and helping a players body build muscle. Its use can not be overlooked.

I would have to agree with Stephen. Yes it's true that you couldn't take the average Joe, shoot him up with steroids, and watch him hit 70+ homers in a season, but studies have proven that steroids actually CAN help with mechanics. Steroids have been linked to muscle memory and are even known to help improve hand-eye coordination and response time. Also as Stephen stated, steroids help immensely with muscle repair, giving steroid users an un-natural advantage over others.

I dont think they help the players very much to perform better, you still need the hand-eye coordination to hit, field, and pitch. The point of steroids isn't that they make you play better, but longer. The season is 162 games long and the average person's body is not meant to last that long. Use of steroids in baseball is so that the recovery time of injuries is shorter and that there aren't as many injuries. Sure they get bigger and stronger, but the main purpose is for the duration of season.

First off, steroids are illegal in baseball and anyone who uses them is and should be considered a cheater. Secondly, apparently baseball players have no knowledge of what steroids do since they have all been saying that taking steroids hasn't helped their game. I know for a fact a D-1 baseball player that had previously used steroids, he is currently affiliated with a minor league team and has since stopped using. His physical attributes have changed, but he is still a great player, for some steroids can mean the difference between the major and minor leagues.
