I know from playing sports all my life that there is no better feeling then finally playing against another team and that is what makes practice so worthwhile. What do you do if there are players on your team that just can't get motivated for practice or even games?

I have been playing sports my whole life and never had problem focusing on the game to game motivation. But when coaching a team often players get a big head after a couple of wins and focus on the big prize, thus losing focus how do you keep players motivated for their next game not the championships only?

Thanks for the response! I think you have to sit that player down and tell them that the championships is not a free ride. You have to win every other game in order to get to the championships and if they still don't listen, threaten to bench that player or decrease their playing time.

I feel like everyone is different. I am easily motivated to play any games but I have teammates that are completely opposite. You can hardly even tell they want to play. I just feel like everyone has their own ways of preparing for games.

I am a Varsity Girls Basketball coach of 9 years. This year was definitely a rebuilding year for us. Last year we were 14-9, this year 4-18. How do you keep a loosing team motivated? I had the team set goals for the season and we worked on individual performance. I did a lot of praising when we did things well, even though it would be a loss. Try to get the players to think constructively and work on teamwork!!

I have played sports all my life and in high school a lot of the girls I played with took practice as a joke. There wasn't much action taken by my coach to fix the problem so we didn't have a very good team. I think that we just needed told what to do because girls will just do nothing if the coach doesn't make them. Make a routine for the team to get into everyday and hopefully winning makes them more motivated.

I feel that every individual is different, which means you have to coach everyone different, similar to differentiated instruction. I think if certain players can't get motivated for games then they aren't playing the sport for the right reason. If there are players who are noticably the better players on the team and feel as if practice is not beneficiary to them, talk to them and work out team and individual goalsm, which they can work towards to achieve.
