Should an athlete who participates on a school sponsored team be required to take a physical education class before graduating?

I truly believe that all athletes should be taking PE even though they participate in athletics after school. I feel as if athletes need the PE classes throughout the day. We can't excuse them just because they are athletes. Once we excuse them we open a can of worms for other students to get out of PE.
