Eastern District Association Convention, Hartford, CT. March 1-5. We hope that you will join us there! Registration and convention information can be found at http://www.aahperd.org/eda Please make sure you check out all the exciting JRFH/HFH events while you are at the convention. Jump Rope Contest: Wednesday, March 1, 7:30-9:00 PM at the Exhibitor's Gala. Stop by the American Heart Association booth at the Connecticut Convention Center and test your jump rope skills. See how many jumps you can do in 30 seconds. There will be a $1 donation to the CT AHA for a chance at winning a basket full of JRFH goodies. All contestants will receive a little thank you gift for your donation. Student Session: How do I get started with Jump Rope for Heart or Hoops for Heart in my school? Thursday, March 2nd, 10:15-11:30 AM. Join us at this session to learn more about how to run a JRFH/HFH event at your school. Each participant will receive a packet of information. You will also have the opportunity to participate in some fun stations with jump ropes and basketballs. Presenters will be Kelly Holcombe, Colleen Wegimont and Gene White. Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart: New Ideas for You! Friday March 3rd, 2:15-3:30 PM. Join us at this session to learn how to start a demo team from the coach of the Forbes Flyers, Janice Harrington. Hear how to spice up your event and learn what is new at the AHA. Each participant will receive packets of information to take home with them. Presenters will be Marissa Greider, CT AHA, Jan Harrington, CT JRFH/HFH Coordinator, and Colleen Wegimont, EDA JRFH/HFH Coordinator. Jump Rope Demo Team: Forbes Flyers with coach Janice Harrington will be performing in the Exhibit area on Friday, March 3rd from 11:30 to 12:30. Come watch these marvelous jumpers perform their routines. They are amazing and you will learn something new to take back to your students. JRHFH Social: Friday, March 3rd, 5:00-6:00 PM. There will be a social for all JRFH/HFH event coordinators in the Presidential Suite. This will be a time for EDA to thank you for your efforts. Stop by for a little food, talk, and a thank you gift. Cheryl Jones, MA, Exercise Science, holds a Certificate in Spirituality from Saint Joseph College. She has completed extensive training in MindfulnessBased Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is author of “Mindful Exercise, A Bridge Between Yoga and Exercise” and is currently a wellness educator at Farmington High School in Farmington, CT. 2:00-3:15 p.m. Nutrition: Making it Personal for Effective Teaching. Stacey Snelling, PhD, RD, is an Associate Professor at American University. Dr. Snelling has written over 40 articles, book chapters, and other publications, and has presented over 100 speeches to regional, national and international audiences in the area of nutrition.
