Has anyone ever heard of an adventure race? Adventure races are a scavendure hunt type race. All teams start in one spot and may have a clue like how many spaces are in this parking lot? Teams will race to count and once they have the correct amount they will be given the next clue. It progresses in a race format like this until all teams reach the finish line. I think this would be a good idea for a field day activity.

That seems like a great idea for a field day event! An adventure race would be a great way to keep students active, and an excellent way to promote teamwork. You can also be really creative and flexible with this event. You can easily work around space and time restraints. You could also easily incorporate math, or english in this event. For example one clue would be use the magnet letters in the red bucket by the swings to spell out a verb and adjective on a cookie sheet and bring it back for the next clue. An event that is very flexible and can be easily changed to fit each grade level is key to a perfect field day activity, and the adventure race is one of them.

I also agree that adventure racing is a good idea for a field day activity. In my class we learned about adventure racing games and they all seemed to be a great way of raising the student’s heart rates while creating a fun environment for the students to participate in. One game that we played was called Game Over. There are 6 stations and at each station there is a different activity such as jumping jacks, push-ups, sit-ups, and lunges. Each team starts out at a different station and moves to the next station by answering a question. A good idea is to use test material to help students review during the activity. Each team must complete the assigned activity before moving on to the next station. The winner is the first team to complete each station, answer all questions correctly, and be the first team to cross the finish line. Does anyone else have any adventure racing games to share?
