I have read over all of your ides for field day. My one problem is I need to integrate Math into a few of the activities as my schools Math test results were low this year. How can I make my field day work and still include Math skills into it?

Here's an idea to use after all of the events for field day are completed. Have the students use their knowledge on graphing to graph/chart the numbers of first place ribbons in comparison to second, third, etc. You can even break this down further by graphing the number of ribbons won by boys to the number of ribbons won by girls. These graphs can then lead to percentages and how what percentage of the class received a first place ribbon, etc.

If you were more concerned about implementing math during the games, then you could use a game, like the softball throw, where students average the distances of their throws and have them use that average as their overall best throw. Whoever has the best overall average then wins first, second, etc.

To incorporate some mathematics into your field days, you could also have the students do some types of games that would help them out with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing skills. These games would start with a team of 2, 3, or 4 students drawing a number from a hat, or start with them getting an assigned number. Then have them with their partners, do like a football or Frisbee toss certain distances and make their teammates run to catch the object to complete the distance throw. Then have them divided or multiply the total number of people to get to the distance assigned. The throws and catches, closest to the distance assigned, would win. There are many types of mathematics games and many modifications, which could be made to help students try to use mathematics more in their daily lives.
