I teach at two elementary schools, and at each school organize a field day. One principal encourages me to use the tug-of-war as an activity, and the other does not. I recently purchased an elementary sof-tug rope, and used it at a 4th grade activity day I ran at one of my schools. The students seemed to really enjoy it and no one got hurt. Does anyone else have an opinion on using tug-of-war as an activity, and if you think it is a good activity, how would you implement it in your field day?

I think that tug of war can be a great game to use at a field day as long as you make sure that the teams are divided up very well so that students do not feel inferior or not strong. If divided properly in can help to teach students teamwork and also problem solving skills as to where to place stronger and different sized/hight students.

I also think that tug of war can be a useful game not only for a field day but also for a PE class. I think that this would be a good warm up or anticipatory set before stretching.

Tug of war is a great game. Every students gets invlved and no one is left out. I would implement this at field day as the last event. Have it all come down to the intense game of tug of war. All the students will be very excited and pumped yp to get ready and take home the victory.

I agree with what everyone is saying here about tug of war. I agree that it does get everyone involved, but I also think that both teams should be evenly split up so that everyone has an equal chance

I am glad to read these posts because I have stuggled year to year deciding whether or not to use the tug-o-war-rope or not. I love the website that roy crush suggested! Thanks Roy :-)
