I have heard about a friend teaching skateboarding as a PE program in New York. Do you think that this can be an appropriate activity for PE?

Although I've never heard of skateboarding being taught within the program, I wouldn't object to it. Skateboarding would teach alot of balance and coordination and might open the eyes of a lot of students that would never touch a skateboard. However, it would pose some safety considerations and would probably need to be slightly modified.

I think that using a skateboard would improve balance and coordination, but there are other pieces of equipment that are less hazardous, but serve the same purpose. The insurance of the school would not allow the use of skateboards.

I have heard of schools incorporating a skateboarding lesson into PE classes. It is so that the students can get a break from the traditional sports taught in PE class such as basketball or football and introduce them to something new. I think this would be a great idea for teaching and would definitely go over the safety concerns.
