I am a 1st year teacher and am interested on how to teach golf in PE class and keep it safe. When I was in college we did a case study on a boy who got hit in the head with a golf club and died. I really wanted to teach golf this past spring, but was concerned with the safety issues; especially since we don't have a great place to practice. I teach 7-12 grades, what age level or grade do you think is appropriate to teach golf in class. |

One of my college classes tought us how to teach golf in PE. We started with putting and ended up with driving off the tee. After the entire unit, we spent two class periods at a driving rang/par 3 course and reinforced everything we learned. The lessons in the units were performed on a football field using whiffle balls and actual clubs (Use whiffle so no one gets hurt with an actual golf ball). You may not be able to take your students to a driving range but you can design your own golf course with cones, hula-hoops, etc. For one lesson I thought, I used the track as a water hazard and it worked out extremely well. |
