If a student doesn't dress for physical activity, does that mean that they should just sit on the side of the gym and do nothing? Aren't we suppose to teach the students things they can do for the rest of their lives and get them active in our classroom?

I went to a school and we had to wear uniforms, and if a student did not dress they got to sit out all class. This is rediculous and should not happen right? Students should be taught that Physical Education is fun and enjoyable, not that if they sipply do not dress they get to sit out. Don't we want active students in our classrooms?

I couldn't agree with you more! I went to a high school where we were able to wear what we wanted for Physical Education. If you did not dress the student lost all of their points for the day but still had to walk around the track. My teachers never let students get out of being active. Once students realized that they had to be active no matter what, they would just dress and do the activities that were being asked.

When I was in teaching practice, students coming in without physical education gear was a continual problem. At the same time you can't play certain sports in your uniform or if you have the wrong footwear for health and safety. I think the only solution to the problem is as you have both said - changing the attitude of the students to enjoying physical activity and wanting to participate.
