I was wondering if anyone has been faced with the new trend of colleges offering PE on line for high school credit. It seems that PE departments at some colleges across the U.S. are offering their services to school districts (for a fee of course)to provide PE to their students on line that would be monitored by the college staff. The students would report activity through a log in system and the college would assess the value of this activty and assign a grade. At the end of a set time peroid the student would then get credit toward High School graduation. We have one school system in Ohio that is considering this as a way of cutting staff in their district.
I have no problem if a school district, in-house, (with the approval of their PE staff) deciding to design a program for their individual school. What I do take issue with is an outside agency coming into a district to offer services that will cut high school physical educators. This is a disturbing trend that is just beginning to take hold. Our State AAHPERD is meeting with our state board to try to put a stop to this practice.
I was wondering if anyone else was facing this problem and how you are addressing this in your state. |
