Hello everyone!! My name is Mike and I am an intern at NASPE. We are
currently working on a promotional video and want to know what exactly you
want to get out of an organization like NASPE? Why would you want to join
NASPE? Why wouldn't you want to join NASPE? I would like any information
you can give me on how to make NASPE appealing to those who are not
already members, and also how to keep the members we have.

Every year I put packets together for my beginning of the year meeting with all of my PE teachers. Included in this packet is an application to our state association and one to AAHPERD. The complaint I hear the most is the relationship between the cost of memebership to the direct benefit they receive. Don't get me wrong, I personally understand the many things that NASPE does for the good of our profession. It seems that effort is not clear at the local level. I hear "if I send my membership in what am I getting". I believe they want to see something appear in their building. If you are doing this video, I hope that you spend some time showing how the dues paid to NASPE impacts the person in the trenches in their day to day life, and the value they are getting for the dollar. |

As a district coordinator I emphasize the need to join our district, state and national associations. Each year I provide membership information brochures and the website to encourage the physical education staff to join. A beginning teacher often times will find it difficult to have the finances to join all of the professional associations they need. In addition to showing on the video the benefits of joining NASPE it would be good to show the quarterly payment option and any additional ways NASPE has to ease the cost of membership. I think the idea of a video it a great one! I will use it my district to help promote NASPE membership. |
