Have you read (or heard about) Academically Adrift (Arum & Roksa, 2011)? The "complaint" is that students in colleges/universities are not being challenged/educated. In particular, skills in critical thinking, complex reasoning and writing are not being appreciably improved. Are we ready to "defend" our own programs as actually educating our students? Beyond righteous indignation that we should be questioned, what data do we have to refute these allegations of mis-education? In these challenged times of economic strife, accountability will become more and more important to retaining programs (and personnel). Is this an issue, yet, on your campus?
