Hi I'm a junior and physical education major at Towson Univeristy. I have recently been given the assignment of writing a unit plan on "Self-Defense" for grades 3-5. Obviously its my assignment, I should do it myself, but I am right now sitting in my library which includes no books on self defense that can be incorporated into the classroom/gymnasium. Since alot of you are teachers out there I was wondering if you had any expereience teaching it and atleast had some basic concepts to get me started. I have tried to search the internet for things as well and have not found much AT ALL. I've even looked through sites with unit and lesson plans and they seem to have EVERYTHING but self-defense. I'm running out of options and didn't know what else to do. Any kind of feedback from anyone at all would be extremely helpful, thanks.

You're in luck Mike! Go to: http://www.classeducation.org. This is the C.L.A.S.S. Self-Defense program available for all teachers! Here you will find a full unit program for children's self-defense. A full Teacher's Manual and video are available to purchase and is age appropriate for ages 8-15. I also recommend the new children's safety book, "I Need to be SAFE: I'm Worth It!" which can be found at this site and all over the internet.

Good Luck!
