At my old high school, we had a recreational slow-pitch softball league and this year they have decided to turn it into a recreational fast pitch league. I was asked to help with the clinic they are going to offer over Easter break and was wondering if there were any drills or exercises that I could introduce to gradually learn how to switch into fast pitch mode?

Here are a couple of drills that I have done. To work on speed and introduce the concept of stealing have a runner on first about to take her lead. Have another player or coach about halfway on the basebath to second (closer or further depending on skill level of student). This person has a tennis ball and holds it at eye height. They are too drop the ball and the person on first leaves first when they drop the ball. The runner has to try and catch the ball before it bounces a second time. This works on speed, watching the release of the "pitcher", and the headfirst slide. You should also do drills to increase bat speed and work on bunting as these will be new concepts as well.
