Looking at some of the injuries that are occurring in younger kids, do you think we are starting at too early of an age at specialization in sports?

I agree that it is important to get kids involved in sports and have their interest sparked for the physical activity aspect at this point in their lives. Many children now rely on video games for their only source of entertainment,I believe this is directly related to the obesity epidemic, the rise in type 2 diabetes, and the rise in hip replacement surgeries at young ages. I beleive kids should be introduced to sports and activity at a young age to help promote an on going healthy lifestyle.

At my school we have recently had 2 boys receive serious neck injuries. One has tragically been left paralyzed from his shoulders down. The other has been more fortunate, but is still in a serious condition. The injuries were sustained playing rugby.
My view on these and other recent injuries is that a number of our students simply have not got the muscular development to be involved in some of the contact sports they choose. They see these games played at such high pace, by
Players who can take the 'hits' because they train for that aspect of the game - and of course they aspire to do the
same. I feel we must better prepare our students physically before they enter into these sports. Boot camp, including strength and conditioning for all?
