do you think all P.E. classes should be required to have a dress code policy with every student wearing the same thing like wearing their school colors? |

Yes I do. This will prevent distractions for the boys when girls where next to nothing and for some kids you cannot afford the latest nike shorts or t-shirts this could be of comfort to them! |

I agree. If students had school issued uniforms, there would be a sense of equality among the students in the class. Also, if there is a co-ed gym class there wouldn't be any distractions involving girls wearing next to nothing shorts or guys walking around without their shirts on. |

We do not have school issued PE uniforms, but students are still expected to change into athletic wear. The clothes they choose must meet the school dress code, clearly boys with no shirts on would not meet the dress code. |

I think it would be easier if the P.E. class had uniforms, that way everyone is equal. If they don't, you have to set strict guidelines on what is and is not acceptable and make sure to follow them. |

I think if the school can provide clean uniforms for the students it is ok, but if the students need to prodive them then it may be a bigger hassel then what it is worth. |

Yes, I do believe that all Physical Education classes should have mandatory uniforms. It makes it easier to tell if your students have changed for class. Also each student will have the proper attire on for class. |

We are considering going to uniforms for P.E. in our high school. Currently students must change into athletic wear which must meet the school dress code requirements. As the weather is nice at the start of school and at the end of the year, many students wear the same clothes in P.E. as they've worn to school. We would like to promote better hygiene and also increase school pride and spirt by requiring students to dress in school colors. After reading all that's posted on the topic, I have no doubt that it's the way to go! |

We have always had a dress code for our classes. There are 2 main reasons. Number 1 it teaches kids proper hygiene. I teach junior high and the kids would be very willing to wear the same thing to school as they do for class. Number 2 if creates some uniformity in what we do. It looks good and I think the kids take pride in that. |

I don't necessarily believe there should be "uniforms". Honestly, just have a "dress code" that requires students to wear sports apparel. Whether that be gym shorts, sweats, running pants, plain t-shirt, etc. The point is to get them to wear proper clothing for the class. Not to make them into a military looking workout group. |

I teach at a private school so we have uniforms already for the students. For physical education the dress code is shorts or sweats and any school issued sports t-shirt (physcial education, volleyball, track and field etc.) All the shirts have the same color tone, Navy and White. I couldn't see teaching a physical education class without the dress code because those clothes are designed for comfort and durability for physical activites. And with team games and class accountability, having the same clothes create a feeling in the class as togetherness - they are all in this together with the same clothes. The few days a year that we have free dress, kids come to physical education with levi's and skirts and all sorts of different clothes and I completely lose the class. On these days the students are not interested in giving their best effort in the activity because it may damage or dirty up their clothes. Having uniforms also teaches responsibility to the students for wearing the correct clothes to school. As far as individual expression that comes with free dress, my thought is 'That's fine, you can dress and do whatever you want, but not during the 45 minutes that you are here in my class.' |
