I was trying to find some activities for a Striking/Fielding college class of mine when I came across a "game" in which the student was penalized for not winning. The penalty ? Running 2 laps. I also saw another warm up game where there was a 10 push up penalty if you messed up. I think this is terrible. What kind of message is it sending students if we make them do physical activity for punishment? If PA is a penalty, then that must mean that Exercise/Physical activity = bad. This is definitely not the message we want to relay to students. Instead of penalizing students, I think teachers should focus on motivation, corrective/positive feedback, intrinsic and in some cases, extrinsic rewards. Thoughts/comments ?

In PE, I agree. In a competitive sport, exercise for punishment is fine in moderation. Sometimes positive feedback, intrinsic and extrinsic rewards just don't motivate as much as they ideally would.
