When I was in high school, I had one P.E. teacher walk the 1.5 mile run (weekly) with us. As teachers, do you think it is a good idea to participate in activities or fitness testing with the students? If so, what are the benefits that you have seen?

I do believe it is a good idea for teachers to participate in physical activity whenever they can with the students. It sets an good example that for students of the importance of being active. Although you do have to be careful as to how active you are and make sure rules and safety is being maintained.

I also believe that it is a good idea to participate with the students. It can be a way to get the "shy" students to get active. You would need to plan out how you would be aware of the total class and situation to make sure that all are safe and all are participating

Without question I agree that PE teachers need to walk the walk and talk the talk. I have student observed and teams and students love when a teacher jumps in the game. It makes it fun for a lot of the students and gets rid of the worries about being graded by a teacher staring at them from the sidelines.
