Should fitness testing be required for PE classes? If so what are some easy ways to test the students

Fitness testing is important but whether we do that or we include some form of fitness into our curriculums, we need to get our students moving. We do a fitness unit and some things we test on are: 1 mile run, agility test, push ups, curl ups, sit and reach, and broad jump. I however feel as if we need to test them on a longer run because I find a lot of students find the mile a joke and don't take it seriously.

I believe it depends on a child's age to determine if fitness testing should be done or not. Younger kids are not going to be interested in running a mile or doing push-ups. I think we need to focus on getting the children active and moving at a young age. And teach them some life long learning ways to stay active and fit.
