So I know that yes, it is required of us in college to learn how to write these long lesson plans. But they seem extremely unnecessary. Ten pages, what principal wants to read all of that. What are lesson plans like in phys ed when you are actually a teacher? I feel like it is a waist of time and will just get in the way of a good teaching. |

No you will not need to write plans out at length once you have been teaching for a while. But it is important to know what you are going to do and to have a goal or two each time the kids are under your charge! It is not a 'waste' of time! |

Great question. I think the time of PE majors would be much better spent devoted to learning how to teach from a good quality lesson plan. It's hard enough to teach effectively let alone write well about a subject that PE majors typically know little about. At some stage it will be important to learn how to adapt and modify plans but writing them is a whole different skill.
