Classroom management is an important aspect of PE but it can be difficult to decide what kind of punishments to use. Using a physical activity such as push-ups or running as a punishment might give the students a negative outlook on those activities. How can I punish students for inappropriate behavior but still keep a positive attitudes towards PE?

I was just asked about classroom management in my first interview today. I told them that I originally went into this profession because I enjoyed this militaristic aspect of PE. However, most children do not enjoy it. Therefore, I believe that if you have a well thought out set of classroom expectations, and you are consistent with enforcing them, then you will eliminate much of the misbehaviors that would have otherwise come about. With that said, I do not believe in punishing students. It will take work, but you need to gain support by keeping a good rapport with the parents. Perhaps you can have a teacher's assistant to help out with enforcing your rules and making your job easier.
