How are teachers in states that promote abstinence in their health education classes supposed to educate on the topic of safe sex when its not supposed to be happening at all? |

This is a very interesting point you made Joe and it is a tough call. I would say teach it as if you werent to obey the abstinence rules because you know that students aren't going to abide by it anyways. But I would say just teach safe sex and keep stressing the point that abstinence is still the best method! |

Joe,
In the world today things are way differet. Kids are starting to have sex and trying things at a younger age. I feel that you have to teach your students what can happen and how to be safe. But you have to tell them the consquences that can happen. As well as informing them that abstinence is the best way to go. |

Teaching abstinence is the best way to go even though students shouldn't be having sex anyways. Let's face it students are having sex younger and younger so they need to be scared first about STD's and pregnancy and then abstinence should be taught so students can understand that they can prevent these issues if they the best 100% method-abstinence. |

Most school districts have an abstinence only policy so make sure that you know this before you start teaching different things. Juli you are definately on the right track with your ideals. |

First of all like Bryan said in a previous response definately check the school district policy before doing anything. But besides that point I agree that teaching abstinence is the best way to get your point across. We all need to open our eyes and tell the truth about sex. Despite the contraversy on this subject, we need to make this topic more of an issue to talk about because of the way the world is today. It is better to have the students informed because we all know it is going on! |
