I think that drug education should be a part of the physical education/health curriculm in schools. In my high school we had a two week drug unit where we watched movies and I think it opened alot of students eyes to the consequences and effects of the various drugs. It may have even cut down on the amount of students who would have experimented with the drugs in the future. |

I disagree with your statement that watching the movies may cut down the number of students who would have experimented with the drugs. All the movies do is show you consequences and effects, which now allows the students to pick out more easliy who may or may not be experimenting with drugs. In my opinion, most students probably will experiment with some form of drug in one way or another, even if they know the consequences. Some students may now choose to experiment with drugs just to see the effects and feel the effects themsselves.
I would preach the philosophy "Don't do drugs", but in the end it is their choice whether they do it or not. I feel you can educate by movies and talks, but I don't feel a significant number of students will not experiment based soley on the movies and education. |

I feel the need isnt just to educated the students but to educate them well about the drugs. Scaring kids straight is a tactic that just may not work for some students who will most likely experiment anyway. I think that just showing them consequences and also possibly having testimony from former adicts helps. The students only see their friends doing the drugs if they were to see someone older who had theyre life ruined by them they might have a different opinion. |

In my high school, we had one day of the year when a police officer would come into our class bringing a poster with the drugs on it. He would show pictures of people who overdosed and died from drugs, but that was it. I feel that we were under educated. I wish that my teachers would have spent more time on the subject of drugs. It might have helped if they would have shown movies and used testimonies. Someone needs to teach the children that drugs can not only ruin your lives but prevent you from having one. |

I think that no less than 2 weeks should be spent on teaching students about drugs. There are many different types of drugs and students need to learn about there effects and dangers so they can learn to stay away from these drugs. I think movies are a great way to teach students about drugs. I show students interventions where students can visually see the effects of drugs and then they see how much better they look physically and emotionally when they have gone through rehab. My students love these tapes and I think they are very beneficial. These lessons should be taught in depth and then a video should be shown to reinforce the drug and its dangers. |

I think students should absolutely get educated on drugs. They need to not only learn about what kinds of drugs there are, but also the side effects and the consequences. A lot of students find out about new drugs by seeing them or getting introduced to it, not knowing the harm they can cause. I think scaring them is a great way to get it through to them and by showing them what could happen. In my high school we had a speaker come in and talk to us about what happened and where they are now, which was in jail. It was so shocking and memorable. |
