At KidsRunning.Com I get lots of letters about groups and schools writing grants to big corporations to start kid "marathon" programs. I always respond that I hope that the grouple will have the program even if they don't get the grant.
On another topic, this summer I'm doing some presentations on school lunch programs and wellness.
I decided to couple these two topics. I came up with a Kid Marathon Pasta program. It's pretty simple and low budget. You can see a picture of it on my front page http://www.kidsrunning.com
1. Lunch program kicks off marathon by pasta lunch or pasta family night. (healthy pasta entree of course).
2. They had out footprint chart or some kind of a chart to track 1/2 mile increments.
3. Kids make and wear 26-piece pasta necklacess when they complete marathon.
4. Lots of bulletin board tie-ins. One - find the type of pasta which most approximates a 26 piece serving. Lots more
5. Some nutrition info on board.
This is a Happy Feet tie in to a page (44) from my book the marathon/pasta page.
